Systems Engineer (Database Security)

We're working with a leading global financial services organisation seeking a Systems Engineer (Database Security) to join a high-performing Cyber Security team focused on protecting critical enterprise data platforms.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a large-scale, international environment, delivering innovative database security solutions across both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure.

The Role As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, deploying, automating, and supporting enterprise database security and activity monitoring solutions.

You'll work closely with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and engineering teams to strengthen data protection capabilities across a diverse and complex technology estate.

Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, and support database activity monitoring and security solutions Administer and maintain database security platforms across global environments Provide production support, including incident, change, and release management Drive technology lifecycle management activities Automate operational processes using scripting and DevOps tooling Collaborate with engineering and security teams to enhance data protection strategies Monitor and troubleshoot complex technical issues across databases and infrastructure Required Experience 4+ years' experience in Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Database Administration, or a related discipline Strong experience with two or more database technologies including: Oracle MySQL SQL Server MongoDB Cassandra DB2 AWS RDS Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices Experience supporting Linux environments (Windows experience also beneficial) Experience troubleshooting complex production issues Scripting experience with Python, Perl, or similar technologies Desirable Skills Database security platforms such as IBM Guardium, jSonar, or similar solutions Cloud platforms including AWS and/or Azure CI/CD and automation tools such as Jenkins, GitHub, and Azure DevOps Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Splunk, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or ServiceNow Exposure to Kafka or similar distributed platforms Understanding of Agile delivery methodologies Familiarity with regulatory and security frameworks including PCI-DSS, SOX, GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO 27001 Ideal Background We're particularly interested in engineers with experience securing large-scale enterprise database environments, especially those spanning both on-premise and cloud infrastructure.

Experience deploying and managing third-party database security tools within complex, international organisations will be highly valued.
