L3 Infrastructure Engineer
Lead Infrastructure Projects | Mentor Engineers | Hybrid Working | Financial Services
Are you an experienced Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, guiding technical teams, and delivering enterprise infrastructure improvements from design through to implementation?
This is an opportunity to join a leading financial services organisation where you’ll play a pivotal role in driving infrastructure initiatives across a modern hybrid environment. Rather than simply maintaining existing systems, you’ll be trusted to lead technical projects, influence infrastructure strategy, and mentor engineers while remaining hands-on with enterprise technologies.
Working within a highly collaborative infrastructure team, you’ll help deliver business-critical projects, improve operational resilience, and support the continued evolution of the company’s technology landscape.
Why You’ll Love This Role:
-
Lead the delivery of enterprise infrastructure projects from design through implementation.
-
Mentor and support Infrastructure Engineers, helping develop technical capability across the team.
-
Hybrid working model that provides an excellent work-life balance.
-
Long-term day-rate contract with strong potential for extension or a permanent opportunity.
-
Work within a modern enterprise environment spanning on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
-
Join a collaborative organisation where technical leadership and innovation are genuinely valued.
-
Influence infrastructure standards, best practices, and future technology direction.
The Role:
As an L3 Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll take ownership of infrastructure projects while acting as a senior technical leader within the team. You’ll oversee project delivery, provide architectural input, mentor colleagues, and ensure infrastructure solutions are delivered to the highest technical standards.
Working alongside networking, security, cloud, and application teams, you’ll coordinate technical delivery while remaining actively involved in the implementation of enterprise infrastructure solutions.
Your Responsibilities
-
Lead infrastructure projects from initial planning and technical design through implementation and transition into production.
-
Coordinate technical activities across multiple infrastructure workstreams and project stakeholders.
-
Design and implement scalable, resilient infrastructure solutions across on-premise and cloud platforms.
-
Provide technical leadership throughout project lifecycles, ensuring delivery to agreed timelines and quality standards.
-
Mentor Infrastructure Engineers, providing coaching, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
-
Act as the senior escalation point for complex technical issues during project delivery.
-
Drive infrastructure modernisation initiatives and identify opportunities for automation and operational improvement.
-
Develop and maintain technical documentation, implementation standards, and best practices.
-
Work closely with business stakeholders to ensure infrastructure projects align with organisational objectives.
-
Promote continuous improvement across infrastructure operations and project delivery.
Skills & Experience:
We’re looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer with a passion for leading projects and helping others succeed.
You’ll ideally have:
-
A degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
-
4+ years’ experience within enterprise infrastructure environments.
-
Proven experience leading or delivering infrastructure projects from design through implementation.
-
Strong technical expertise across VMware vSphere/ESXi, Windows Server, Active Directory, enterprise storage, networking, and hybrid cloud platforms.
-
Experience coordinating technical teams across cross-functional infrastructure projects.
-
Previous mentoring, coaching, or technical leadership experience.
-
Strong project planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
-
Excellent troubleshooting and analytical abilities.
-
Outstanding communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
-
A collaborative mindset and a passion for developing both technology and people.
