Senior Data Platform Engineer
Galway (Hybrid) Long-term Contract We are working with a leading global financial services organisation to hire a Senior Data Platform Engineer to join their Asset Management Technology team, supporting a high-impact equity research function.
This role sits close to the investment decision-making process and focuses on building and evolving a critical data visualisation and reporting platform used by senior analysts, portfolio managers, and executive stakeholders.
The Role You will take ownership of a financial data reporting and visualisation engine that plays a key role in how investment decisions are made.
This position combines data engineering, scripting, and platform ownership, with a strong emphasis on reliability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities include: Designing, building, and maintaining a data-driven reporting and visualisation platform Developing scripts to process, store, analyse, and present financial data Working closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and deliver meaningful outputs Modernising legacy scripting and reporting workflows while maintaining business continuity Driving improvements across CI/CD, monitoring, and platform performance Supporting production systems and ensuring high availability and data integrity Experience Required 7+ years’ experience in software development or data engineering Strong Linux background, including system processes, networking, and task scheduling Advanced experience in shell scripting such as bash, ksh, or zsh Experience with Python, Perl, or similar scripting languages in production environments Strong SQL skills, including relational schema design and optimisation Solid understanding of data analysis, statistical concepts, and data tooling Experience with data visualisation or charting tools Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment processes Desirable Skills Experience modernising legacy systems or scripting environments Knowledge of data pipelines involving APIs, message queues, ETL tools, or workflow schedulers Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP Python experience for automation, APIs, or data processing Experience building reusable tooling or internal libraries What You Will Bring Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to take ownership of a complex, business-critical platform Comfortable working independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams Strong communication skills, particularly when working with non-technical stakeholders A proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement The Opportunity You will be part of a technology team that sits at the centre of investment research and decision making.
